Pachuca is Hidalgo’s major city, municipality, and capital, located less than 100km from Mexico City.

Among the many things that make Pachuca Mexico, worth visiting are its emblematic sites and colonial architectural treasures.

Getting to Pachuca

Pachuca is about 90 km northeast of Mexico City.

To get to Pachuca, you can fly into Mexico City’s International Airport and then take a bus, cab, or rent a car.

Bus services are also available from Mexico City to Pachuca, a convenient and affordable option.

If you are already in Mexico, you can take a bus from other cities, such as Puebla, Queretaro, or Tlaxcala, which have good connections with Pachuca.

Additionally, Pachuca is connected to Mexico City via a train service, a unique and scenic way to travel between the cities.

1. Visit the Monumental Clock, the landmark of Pachuca Mexico

The Monumental Clock is a 40m high tower located in the historic center of Pachuca, in Independence Square.

Its construction was a tribute to commemorating the first centennial of independence, and it stands out as a representative symbol for significant periods of Mexican history.

Four female sculptures are carved in marble, and its carillon was built by the same company that created the iconic English clock of London, Big Ben.

2. Mining Museum

The Mining Museum has a neoclassical style and tells the history of the mining industry in Hidalgo.

The museum has on permanent exhibit various items related to mining: documents, tools, furniture, and mining machinery. In addition to this, it also serves as a room for the Mining Archive.

3. The Rule House of Pachuca, Mexico

The Rule House is the name given to the Municipal Palace of Pachuca and currently serves as the headquarters of the City Hall.

It is an English-style building located in Pedro Maria Anaya Square and was built in 1896 by businessman Francisco Rule.

The building has two levels and is decorated with columns on the first level and marine shell reliefs.

4. Former Convent of San Francisco de Asis

The Ex Convent of San Francisco de Asis was once a Franciscan convent and is now a historic site that welcomes visitors attracted by its beauty and history.

The Interactive Museum El Rehilete offers visitors a family experience, a place of learning and fun.

It is an interactive museum with spaces such as a planetarium showing astrology, didactic, and fun.

In the museum, there is also a Dinopark where there are life-size dinosaur figures. In addition, the place has a botanical garden where you can relax.

6. National Museum of Photography

The National Museum of Photography narrates the history of photography, from its birth and retracing its first steps in this field.

The museum has a temporary hall with 29 sections, ideal for those who love photography.

7. Christ the King

The “Cristo Rey” is a 33-meter-high sculpture representing the age of Christ. It is located on the Mineral del Monte highway and is visible from all over the city.

It is a work created in 1992 by former miners thanks to divine intervention since they survived an accident in the Paricutín mine.

The David Ben Gurion Park has 26 hectares and is located in the Silver Zone of Pachuca.

The haciendas in Pachuca date from the 18th and 19th centuries and were dedicated to agave, cattle raising, or silver work distillation.

The closest sites are in the Huasca, Ixmiquilpan-Tasquillo, Ajacuba-Tula, Apan-Cuatepec and Tizayuca areas.

Mountain Corridor Route

The route begins in Huasca de Ocampo, continues through Mineral del Chico, and ends in Real del Monte.

Huasca de Ocampo

Huasca de Ocampo is 35 km from Pachuca and is the first Mexican town named a Magical Town.

It is a town with a good vibe, and its streets and houses are of colonial architecture. Among them are two old haciendas: Santa Maria Regla and San Miguel Regla.

It is surrounded by a forest of Oyamales, making it ideal for hiking and mountain climbing. In this town are the Basaltic Prisms, a must-visit.

Basaltic Prisms

Prismas Basalticos has its origin thousands of years ago and arose after the cooling of lava.

It is a natural passage worthy of admiring for its beauty.

The prisms are surrounded by forests and are a place to connect with the outdoors and have a spiritual experience; it is ideal for camping and hiking.

Explore Mineral del Chico near Pachuca Mexico

Mineral del Chico is a Magical Town 33 km from Pachuca with striking buildings of colonial architecture, a mining past, and a history of 4 centuries since its foundation.

You can also count on the excellent treatment of the locals and its natural environment worthy of appreciation, including the El Chico National Park.

Within the town, the most outstanding features are Purísima Concepción Church (created between the XVII and XIX centuries), San Antonio Mine, and the fish farm with trout ponds.

El Chico National Park

El Chico National Park has 2754 hectares and became Mexico’s first protected natural area in the 19th century.

It is a park with beautiful natural landscapes: pine forests, oyamel, encino, and valleys with rock formations.

You can practice various activities such as mountaineering, biking, sport fishing, rappelling, zip-lining, and hiking.

Mineral del Monte, near Pachuca Mexico

Mineral del Monte, or Real del Monte, is a town in the region located only 12 km from Pachuca.

It is nestled in the mountains and still retains an English influence. The architecture of its houses has colorful facades, and its streets are narrow with old buildings.

In the town, there are also two museums and silver workshops.

When visiting this town, one of the must-sees is the nearby Peñas Cargadas Natural Park, where you can go horseback riding, zip-lining, and rappelling.

Xihuingo

Xihuingo is an archeological zone in Tepeapulco, about 45 km from Pachuca Mexico.

It is located at the foot of the hill of the same name and is considered the oldest archaeological site in the state.

This place stands out for its imposing pyramid known as the Tecolote.

Huapalcalco

Huapalcalco is also an archaeological zone located 52 km from Pachuca Hidalgo.

It is one of the main Toltec settlements and comprises two architectural complexes full of history. Near this place, there are cave paintings.

One of the things I enjoy most when visiting Pachuca is the food. It’s probably one of the richest in the country.

Here, you will find Mexican cuisine’s most authentic and classic dishes. For example:

• Pastes (stew filled empanadas)
• Escamoles
• Zacahuil
• Bocoles

These delicious and classic dishes, and to some extent, exotic, are among the foods you will find here. To drink, the pulque is a must!
